Keyon Prior and the Bayfield High School boys basketball team took two of three games against the Alamosa Mean Moose a year ago, including a 56-54 win in the Intermountain League championship game. It was the Wolverines’ first league tournament title since 1992. Now, Bayfield (8-4, 3-0 IML) has opened hot in the league after a slow start coming off the state football championship. Meanwhile, the Mean Moose have gone 9-1 overall and have opened the IML schedule 3-0, including a 44-36 home win Friday against Centauri. Alamosa is ranked No. 2 in the CHSAA coaches poll behind No. 1 Sterling. Bayfield is outside of the top 10 and would be ranked No. 12 if the poll extended beyond 10. Regardless of ranking, Saturday night’s contest has big-time implications going forward.
