Police are searching for an Ignacio man who may be connected with a serious assault Tuesday morning in north Durango.
Roger Begay, 26, was found face-down unconscious and nearly unresponsive Tuesday morning in the 3200 block of Main Avenue, said Detective Bryan Heaton, with the Durango Police Department.
Begay was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center before being flown to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington in critical condition.
He suffered “substantial brain trauma,” Heaton said.
He was in “stable” condition in the hospital’s intensive-care unit, according to a nurse.
Police believe Begay was assaulted near the Spanish Trails Inn & Suites, 3141 Main Ave. They want to talk to Cardinal Weston, 45, who is described as a “person of interest.”
Anyone with information on Weston’s whereabouts or who witnessed the assault is asked to call Durango police Detective Christopher Thompson at 375-4732.
