A driver crashed a car into a utility trailer loaded with construction equipment Saturday near Viles Park after suffering a medical emergency.

The crash, which occurred at 10:45 a.m., caused debris to be scattered throughout the park and onto the adjacent roadway, said Durango Police Department spokesperson Amanda Garrison. The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital for evaluation.

“The driver was the only person involved in the crash, and fortunately no one else was injured,” she said. ” … At this time, we have no reports that any bystanders in the park were involved or injured.”

No information on the driver’s identity or condition was available as of Saturday night.

The owner of the utility trailer was contacted, and the city Streets Division was called to assist with debris removal and cleanup, Garrison said.
