In response to David and Eleni Albrechta’s March 25 letter to the Herald, I enjoyed the letter and assessment of the funding needs for Mesa Verde National Park. They may not be aware of the Mesa Verde Foundation, a nonprofit fundraising organization whose purpose is to raise awareness and outside capital for Mesa Verde National Park. After a multi-year campaign, MVF provided much-needed funds to complete the new visitors center and state-of-the-art archival storage facility. Recently, we have contributed to a critical geological assessment to determine the stabilization needs of Cliff Palace. The repair of Spruce Tree House is now also on the list of urgent financial aid.
In addition to financial backing, MVF also provides opportunities for in- depth exploration of the park by horseback, hiking, artisan interpretation and special events. On March 24, MVF hosted a free film debut of the Colorado National Parks, which will air on April 14 on Rocky Mountain PBS. Anyone can contribute to Mesa Verde Foundation.
