Letters: LPEA candidates augur a rosy future

The right choice in the LPEA election could mean many more jobs in La Plata County in the future.

I am writing to endorse Guinn Unger, Rachel Landis and Doug Fults for the LPEA board of directors.

After the COVID-19 shutdown, we must all work to jump-start our local economy.

As sunshine is a great local resource we have a lot of, taking advantage of our nation’s move toward sustainable energy represents an enormous economic opportunity. This could include a spectrum of possibilities such as: clean energy startups that create jobs, a build-out of solar for sale to other regions and high-demand skills training for all levels of sustainable energy implementations.

The United States will spend $5 to $7 trillion dollars over the next 20 years upgrading its energy infrastructure. A lot of that money could come to our region if we are poised to take advantage of it.

We need an LPEA board that is willing to explore energy options and is focused on the future. The people running against Unger and Fults are committed to Tri-State and a dying fossil fuels mindset. They have shown they do not want LPEA to be free.

I’m committing to creating as many local jobs as possible to help recovery. Please join me in voting for the best local leaders to make that happen – Guinn Unger, Rachel Landis and Doug Fults.
