Letters: These were my mentors – who are yours?

Two mentors in my life passed this spring, and I feel sure they are spreading the energy they shared while on Earth to other worlds needing their attention: Anne Isgar, a lifetime resident of La Plata County, and Reid Ross, a transplant in the 1990s who brought all his experience as a city planner to us, both taught me much.

During World War II, Anne was a mechanic in the California airplane industry, earning commendations while planning her return to farming in La Plata County. Reid was an officer aboard a Navy ship helping to locate mines set in Chinese rivers by Japan. Anne helped build a successful ranching and farming business, giving leadership to all agricultural domains; Reid, after retirement, set an example of community planning, helping to develop and fund affordable homes in the county. Both raised families who continue the model of service, concern for the wellbeing of the planet and education of others about the Western environment. They were my mentors. Who are yours?
