Letters: Don’t let Trump destroy our democracy!

Our democracy is being destroyed by Donald Trump.

He has been empowered by his impeachment acquittal to begin functioning as a dictator. He has destroyed our constitutionally mandated three coequal branches of government. He has breached the rule of law. He is using his attorney general to try to punish those who have told the truth about him under oath and to reward his criminal cronies.

The Republican Party, except for Mitt Romney, has sold out to Trump. Because Trump controls Mitch McConnell, the Senate will not even consider legislation to protect our voting rights.

This election will be our last chance to save our country from tyranny. We must at least insist that all states use paper ballots to validate our votes; even so, if defeated, he may well refuse to leave.

If we do not rise as a nation to reaffirm our democracy, we will soon be under the control of a maniacal ruler who cares only about his own power and wealth.

Trump and his supporters are the biggest internal threat our democracy has ever faced. A vote for Trump is a vote for Putin and every other autocrat on earth.

Please use your vote to ensure that the democratic ideals of “liberty and justice for all” are alive and well on November 4, 2020.
