Farmers market to hold sale, celebration

Durango Farmers Market is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a 20 percent off Market Bucks sale and a birthday event Aug. 20.

Market Bucks are the market’s own currency, valid at all vendor booths throughout the season. They can be purchased at the DFM information booth, located next to the elk sculpture in the parking lot of First National Bank. Market founder Carol Clark and other guest speakers will also be featured in an 11 a.m. celebration at the music booth. There will be free balloons and gluten-free cake available.

Rotary to hold talk on Justice Ginsburg

Acting in the persona of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, amateur actress Judy Hook will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Ginsburg has been a strong advocate for equality in gender rights. Hook will recount some of Ginsburg’s personal hurdles, landmark cases and notable dissents.

Youth climate conference on tap

Area youths interested in climate change are invited to the Uplift Climate Conference Aug. 18-20 at Chris Park Campground, 900 Chris Park Road.

The gathering will be a space to work on climate change, network with other youths and celebrate the Colorado Plateau while camping beneath the ponderosa pines. Uplift aims to connect diverse voices and empower young people across the Colorado Plateau.
