The American College of Radiology has given Mercy Regional Medical Center a three-year accreditation in ultrasound. The recognition has been granted since 1996.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of internal body parts to help providers diagnose illness, injury or other medical problems.

Ultrasound has applications in obstetrics, gynecology and vascular illnesses.

Accreditation involves a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians.
