Bank of Colorado opens high-tech ATM in Bayfield

New machine is one of 25 in region operated by bank

Need to chat with a bank teller early in the morning or on a Saturday?

Bank of Colorado has a new automatic teller machine for that, and the newest one is now in Bayfield.

At a grand opening on July 26, the bank showcased the new service, called ATM Live, and made a $500 donation to Pine River Shares.

That donation will be matched by an anonymous donor for a total of $1,000, said Pam Wilhoite as she gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of Pine River Shares.

In addition to serving as a standard ATM, the new machines allow customers to video chat with a live teller. Customers also can deposit or cash checks or get cash out of their accounts (with an ID) if they’ve forgotten their ATM cards. The video chat feature is available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays.

Bayfield Mayor Matt Salka talked with a bank teller on a screen on the machine and asked to withdraw the funds for Pine River Shares.

No, the ATM won’t spit out $500 to anyone who asks, but the bank did provide certificates for attendees to receive $25 in cash if they tried out the service.

Bank of Colorado and its parent company has about 25 of the machines in the West and Midwest, including one at North City Market in Durango, said Melisa Jackson, a vice-president at the bank. The Bayfield service is in the parking lot of the Grocery Store on Commerce Drive.

The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce provided a ribbon cutting for the event, and Lydia’s Sweet Treats offered ice cream to everyone attending, which was popular on the hot, sunny day.
