Editor’s note: “Art Seen” is a monthly series profiling Durango’s art galleries. By Katie Chicklinski-Cahill
Herald Arts & Entertainment editor
Wildshots, photographer Claude Steelman’s gallery, is a Main Avenue space filled with large, colorful photos of wildlife and landscapes.
The photos are all taken by Steelman, and the only pieces you’ll find by anyone else in the gallery are bronzes by Mancos sculptor Veryl Goodnight.
The gallery has been in Durango for about seven years, and in its new space at 842 Main for the past year. Steelman, who moved to Durango in 1988 from northern Colorado, is “almost a local,” he said, adding that in the time he has lived here, he’s actually had four galleries in Durango.
Steelman prints his work on a variety of materials, including paper, canvas and metal.
He said along with local sales, he also ships his artwork around the nation – and internationally.
“I send stuff to Europe all the time,” he said.
