Durango football blanks Glenwood Springs on road

Demons win 48-0, will return home to face Eagle Valley

Durango football continues to make its case as of one of the top 3A football teams in the state, crushing Glenwood Springs 48-0 on the road this past Friday.

The Demons (6-1, 2-0 in the 3A Western Slope League) have won six straight games after dropping their season opener to Farmington.

Glenwood Springs fell to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in 3A Western Slope League.

Senior quarterback Tyler Harms had an outstanding game for the Demons, completing 13 of 16 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns.

Running back Jaxon Fancher led Durango on the ground with 20 carries for 143 yards and three rushing touchdowns. The Demons’ top receiver was junior Peyton Dike, who caught four passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore Owen Cheatham led the way with four tackles. Senior Mason Palmer had an interception for Durango in the first quarter. Sophomores Nathan Beal and JJ Vickers each had a fumble recovery, as did senior Julian Rodriguez.

The Demons got off to a good start with a 13-0 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Harms linked up with Dike for a 44-yard touchdown pass to make it 20-0.

Durango cruised to a 34-0 halftime lead after a 17-yard touchdown pass from Harms to Rodriguez.

The Demons return home to play Eagle Valley this Friday at 6 p.m.
