Teryk Webber was an instrumental force for the Durango boys soccer team in 2023, winning the Southwestern League Player of the Year as a result.

“It was all good knowing that all my hard work paid off a little bit and getting some sort of tribute to my hard work,” the senior midfielder said. “At the end, like, I was more proud of the team winning the league because last year of course we won it, but the year before that and the year before that, we weren't able to actually pull through and win the league.”

Webber scored a key goal in Durango’s 4A state tournament opener against Lewis-Palmer to open the floodgates in Durango’s 6-3 win.

Additionally, Durango coach Danny Suits won the Southwestern League Coach of the Year.

“I feel honored but it’s more so a great reflection of the players, the entire coaching staff, the rest of the DHS soccer program and community who made the season happen,” Suits said in a text message.

Webber credits Suits for helping him play to his potential after starting slow in the first half of the season, adding that Suits’ positive approach was a much-needed boost in the playoffs.

Seniors forwards Owen Carozza and Sam Persing were named to the first-team all-league alongside Webber, as was sophomore forward Dylan Burns.

Senior defender Lucas Foster and senior midfielder Davis Cameron were second-team all-league selections.

The Demons had a 13-3-1 record this season, including 6-1-1 in league play.

Webber is proud of the big wins he and his teammates had in his career and all the memories they’ve created growing up and playing together.

After high school, Webber plans to take a two-year mission trip with his church and then play college soccer after that.
