Residents of the Crestview neighborhood currently have to walk a mile in order to access the nearest Durango Transit bus stop on Main Avenue, according to the city’s transportation webpage. But not for long – the route expansion takes effect on Monday.

The expansion will provide daily transit service every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., including on weekends. Two Crestview stops appear on the transit route’s new schedule at Delwood Avenue and Crestview Drive and Forest Avenue and Crestview Drive. They are the third and fourth stops on the expanded route.

The route expansion will not incur any additional operational costs for the city, according to Durango Transit.

In addition, Durango Transit plans to enact route efficiencies on the Mercy/Three Springs route and redirect the Walmart route around the Durango Mall “to address private property owner’s liability concerns,” according to the city.

“These improvements were developed based on community feedback as well as an on-going analysis of ridership needs,” the city website says.

The website says the Highway 160 west route expansion is an important step toward providing safe, reliable and accessible transportation to all Durango residents.
