Is Durango the ‘best adventure town’ in Colorado? A magazine is asking

A cataraft punches through Corner Pocket Rapid on the Animas River at Whitewater Park. With so many outdoor sports available, is Durango the state’s “best adventure town”?

Estes Park or Granby? Denver or Ouray? Eagle or Durango?

Just which is the state’s “best adventure town”?

Elevation Outdoors – in yet another attention-seeking contest and another chance for Durangoans to flood the ballot boxes – wants to know. The online version of the Boulder-based magazine is running the contest through Aug. 1. Results will be revealed in the September issue.

The rules are a little sketchy, but you can visit www.elevationoutdoors.com/colorado-adventure-towns and start voting.

“We pit 45 of the best towns head-to-head at random and ask you to choose between them until we have a winner,” Elevation Outdoors explains on its website.

Durango, according to Elevation Outdoors, has “world-class whitewater on the Animas River,” as well as being the terminus of the Colorado Trail and have Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort and Silverton Mountain “right up the road.”
