La Plata County residents who may not be in the mood to cook or wait all day for a Thanksgiving meal can get their own miniature feast for free.
Manna soup kitchen is resuming its fourth annual meal pickup and delivery service on Turkey Day.
“All of our food will be packaged as grab-and-go,” said Marissa Hunt, Manna’s deputy director.
On-site meal pickups will go from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., which people can also eat at Manna’s pavilion, which will have heaters to keep that space warm. Those without a vehicle and who may travel by foot can walk up to the serving station for their meal, Hunt said.
“Folks can just come up to Manna and grab as many meals as needed for either themselves or their neighbors or family,” Hunt said.
Deliveries will go from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Durango-based Vineyard Church will help deliver meals across the county, from Durango and Hesperus to Bayfield and Ignacio.
Manna, located 1100 Avenida del Sol in Durango, expects to distribute 1,000 meals on site, which will include oven-roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, salad and a slice of pie (including apple and hubbard squash; the latter of which is comparable to pumpkin pie, according to Hunt). The deadline to order a free meal for home delivery is 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
In case someone may not have reliable internet service to order a meal for delivery, they can call Hunt at (970) 828-0144.
