Most parents worry about stage fright and hope their children remember the notes during a recital.
But the parents of the advanced students in the Stillwater All Stars are worried about getting a good spot on the grass at the Telluride Jazz Festival, where the group has been invited to perform on the main stage for the second summer in a row.
The students, performing with five faculty members who are professional musicians, play a high energy set of funk and Latin-infused jazz. Ranging in age from 13 to 17, they also compose original pieces for the group.
The All Stars will showcase their work at a free concert Thursday and will also perform at the La Plata County Fair during the second week in August.
The Stillwater Foundation is an 11-year-old music-education nonprofit that provides opportunities for people of all ages to play live music in a band.
