This February, discover the creative heart of Durango at the DAC

Jason Lythgoe

As we recover from this year’s snowless Snowdown celebration, we’re rolling out a diverse lineup of fantastic events in the theater, art workshops and gallery exhibitions that offer something for everyone – whether you’re an aspiring artist, seasoned creative, or someone looking for a fun and inspiring experience.

For those interested in honing their artistic skills, DAC’s classes provide a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages and experience levels. “Pots and Pints” is a crowd favorite, combining pottery and a laid-back atmosphere, allowing participants to sip a drink while they create. If stained glass is more your style, don’t miss our upcoming workshops where you can explore this timeless craft and make your own colorful masterpieces. For a unique night out, join us for “Warhol and Wine,” where you can enjoy an evening of pop art-inspired fun while sipping wine and unleashing your inner artist.

In addition to classes, DAC is home to several exciting gallery exhibits. This month, our “Whimsical Wonderland” exhibit will continue through the 23rd and provides a playful and imaginative escape. And don’t forget about your Valentine and pick up something in our Artisan’s Market full of local art and amazing creations. Looking ahead, there are many opportunities for artists to showcase their work at DAC! Registration is now open for future exhibits throughout the year, and we invite local artists to submit their creations for a chance to share their talent with the community. Visit Durangoarts.org for more information on how to apply.

The DAC also brings the thrill of live theater and film to Durango this month. Our Valentine’s weekend will be extra special with a hilarious and heartwarming improv comedy show that’s perfect for a night out with loved ones. Then, for film lovers, we are excited to present the first movie in our yearlong collaboration with the Durango Independent Film Festival: “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” the cult classic that’s as infamous for its quirks as it is for its unique place in film history. And for a more unique cinematic experience, our Silent Sundays with Swanson film series continues this year with the iconic “The Cameraman,” starring the legendary Buster Keaton. A perfect blend of humor and heart, this classic is a must-see on the big screen with music played live by the world renowned and local celebrity pianist Adam Swanson.

As a nonprofit, the Durango Arts Center relies on the support of our community to continue providing quality arts programming. Consider becoming a member, making a donation or even adding your name or business logo to our sponsor list. Your support helps us keep the arts alive in Durango for generations to come!

Whether you’re creating, viewing or simply enjoying the arts, the Durango Arts Center is the place to be this month. Be our Valentine and let your creativity soar!
