Volleyball Roundup: Durango rolls league foe, Bayfield splits and Ignacio gains confidence

Centauri takes command of 3A IML

The Durango High School volleyball team put itself in position to compete for a league championship with another victory Saturday.

Durango (8-3, 2-0 5A/4A Southwestern League) swept Grand Junction Central in a victory with set wins of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-13. Durango remained tied in the loss column with Fruita Monument (12-1, 3-0 SWL) atop the league standings. The Demons won’t see the Wildcats until a road match Friday, Oct. 13.

Brett Rowland led DHS with 15 kills Saturday, and Ally Snow added 14. Lana Razma also had 12, and Taylor Wolf came through with nine.

Bri Brown led the Demons with 40 assists. Sierra Martin had a team-high three blocks. Millie O’Ketter had 15 digs.

Next for the Demons is a road match at Montrose at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Bayfield High Volleyball

The Wolverines split a Class 3A Intermountain League tri-meet Saturday at Centauri.

After beating Monte Vista 3-0, Bayfield fell 3-0 to Centauri in a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 defeat.

BHS (9-4, 5-1 IML) compelted a season sweep of Monte Vista, and it was the team’s first meeting against Centauri (12-0, 6-0 IML). The Falcons now control their destiny in pursuit of a league championship, while BHS will host Centauri on Oct. 14 with a chance to get even.

Next for the Wolverines is a match at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Farmington against Piedra Vista. The Panthers beat the Wolverines 3-1 in Bayfield on Sept. 19.

Ignacio High Volleyball

The Bobcats improved to 5-7 and got back to 4-4 in 2A/1A San Juan Basin League play Saturday with a 3-0 win against Nucla.

Ignacio won the sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-18 to secure the home victory. Six regular players were unavailable for the match, and several younger athletes performed very well in the win.

Ignacio will have to face 3A power Centauri at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in La Jara.
