Even professional Democrats are surprised at how many people within their ranks are openly identifying as democratic socialists. The Democratic Socialists of America has been candid about its positions, yet Democratic Party officials and leftist news media seem too shocked to respond practically. Among the published goals of the DSA:
“DSA stands for the total dissolution of the United States empire.”
“The Democratic Socialists of America is dedicated to a world free of exploitation and oppression, leading to the liberation of all people from capitalism and imperialism.”
“The U.S. is a prison house of nations founded on genocide, built by slavery, maintained by exploitation, and expanded through conquest.”
“DSA gives its full commitment to decolonization, deoccupation, demilitarization, and full repatriation of indigenous lands.”
These are not fringe statements – they are published positions of an organization with growing influence in Democratic politics. Mainstream Democrats would do well to address them directly.
