Seniors Outdoors! announces these upcoming activities:

A moderate, five- to six-mile snowshoe hike up the Cascade Creek Valley will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday. RSVP to Charles Berglund, 247-9747 or chasberglund@msn.com.

The Wednesday Wanderers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to walk the Animas River Trail from Santa Rita Park to Home Depot and back. Dogs must be on leash. For information, call Eric Pahlke at 247-1130

A three-day car camping trip to Utah, in and around Moab, with difficult daily hikes including scambling, will depart at 9 a.m. March 9. Participants will stay at primitive campsites or motels in Moab. Bring plenty of water. RSVP to Bill Cagle, 385-4566 or cagle81301@yahoo.com.

Snowshoe workshops set for Wednesdays

Recent snows have allowed Durango Nature Studies to extend its naturalist snowshoe workshops into March, with extra sessions scheduled for Wednesday and March 14 at Haviland Lake off U.S. Highway 550 north of Durango.

The workshops offer education in local ecology and snow science.

Cost is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. Snowshoe rentals are available.

Sneffels Half Loop to be raced March 10

Backcountry skiers will have two courses to choose from March 10 in the San Juan Hut Systems’ Sneffels Half Loop on the northern flanks of the Sneffels Range near Telluride, Ridgway and Ouray.

Both races start at the Last Dollar Trailhead above the Telluride airport. Any type of skis are allowed. Huts will be used as aid stations and mandatory check-in points. Free parking and shuttle service will be provided.

The full course entails 37.7 miles of rolling, arduous traverse to the finish at the Ridgway/Burn Trailhead. Total ascent is 7,440 feet and total descent is 10,707 feet.

The short course is nearly 24 miles, finishing at the Blue Lakes Trailhead near Ridgway with a total ascent of 3,990 feet and total descent of 5,489 feet.

Entry fee is $100.
