Nationally-ranked fencer on point in Durango

Jered Wilkinson, a nationally ranked fencer, will be hosting a three-day clinic with the 4 Corners Fencing-Pentathlon Club starting Sunday at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

Wilkinson holds an A rating in epee, a D in foil and is a certified bout judge with USA Fencing.

Sunday’s clinic is 1-6 p.m.

Monday’s clinic is 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s clinic is 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The cost is $25 a fencer per each clinic, which is open to beginners; equipment will be provided, and spectators are welcome to attend.

Kyle Petty’s Charity Ride to roll through Durango

More than 175 motorcyclists will travel more than 2,500 miles from Saturday to May 4, and the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America will stop in Durango around noon Wednesday.

The tour, founded by the former NASCAR driver, raises awareness and money for Victory Junction, a camp created to benefit children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

Some of this year’s celebrity riders include Petty and college football hall of famer, NFL legend and mixed martial artist Herschel Walker.

The cyclists are scheduled to arrive around noon at Durango Harley-Davidson at 750 South Camino Del Rio, then will leave around 1 p.m.
