FLC football youth camp begins 9 a.m. today

Fort Lewis College football is hosting a youth camp for grades 2 through 8 today through Friday.

The cost is $85.

The Skyhawks’ football camp will provide players of all ability levels instruction on teh fundamentals of the game as well as instruction on the individual position techniques and strategy. FLC coaches and players will instruct the three-day camp.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Campers will be split into two groups: grades 2-5 and grades 6-8. Campers must provide football shoes and athletic shorts, and they will be given a T-shirt at the check-in.

In addition to this weekend’s camp, FLC will host a 7-on-7 passing tournament June 30, an individual skills camp July 1 and a lineman full-contact camp July 2-3.

The 7-on-7 is limited to 14 players for grades 9-12 for the fall of 2012 class. The cost is $200 per team for preregistration before Sunday and $225 after Sunday. Lunch and beverages will be provided for an additional $10 per player.

The 7-on-7 passing tournament is noncontact.

The skills camp will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 1. All individual skill positions will be covered. The camp is for players in grades 9-12.

The cost is $60 or $70 the day of the event. Lunch and beverages are included in the registration fee.

The lineman camp is for players grades 9-12 interested in playing on the offensive and/or defensive line. Campers must provide their own equipment.

The cost for the two-day camp is $125 and includes four meals and one night stay in an on-campus residence hall.

Farmington to host 2 youth hoops tourneys

A basketball tournament for players ages 15 and younger will take place Friday through Sunday at the Navajo Preparatory High School gymnasium in Farmington.

The age divisions are 15-and-under, 13-and-under and 10-and-under. The 10-and-under division is coed, while the other two are split into boys and girls divisions.

The entry fee is $125 per team with a maximum of 10 players per team, and the tournament will be double elimination with one championship game. The top three teams earn awards, and there will be all-tournament teams and MVPs named.

Navajo Prep will hold another youth basketball tournament June 29-July 1 in Farmington.

There will 18-and-under boys and girls divisions, 15-and-under boys and girls divisions and a 10-and-under coed division. Each team is allowed 10 players.

The entry fee is $125 per team.

The tournament is double elimination with one winner-take-all championship game. There will be awards for first through third place, and an all-tournament team and an MVP will be selected.

Knocker Rendezvous this weekend in Dolores

The Dolores softball fields will be home to the Knocker Softball Rendezvous on Saturday and Sunday. The men’s and women’s brackets will play Saturday, while the coed division will play games Sunday.

The entry fee is $200 per team with a guarantee of at least four games per team. The amount of awards given out is based on the number of teams registered, but the champions will receive 14 dri-fit shirts.

The entry deadline for the Knocker Softball Rendezvous is 6 p.m. Thursday.
