SBA names regional trade finance specialist

The U.S. Small Business Administration has recently appointed Bryson Patterson to be regional trade finance specialist for the Rocky Mountain West.

The administration gives its loans to local service businesses such as restaurants and construction firms, but its export-finance programs are designed to assist an important segment of small businesses, exporters. Patterson covers Utah, Wyoming and Colorado out of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Denver.

He comes to Denver from Washington where he held a number of positions in SBA headquarters including most recently as a management analyst in the Office of International Trade.

Pet-sitting business announces new hire

Hillary Smith has joined Custom Animal Services Pet Sitting.

Smith has extensive knowledge of pets, both from personal experience and pet sitting. A native of California, she moved to Durango to continue her studies at Fort Lewis College.

Her family helped raise puppies for Canine Companions, a nonprofit organization that matches golden retriever and Labrador service dogs with individuals. Smith volunteers at the La Plata County Humane Society. She began pet sitting in 2007.

The pet-sitting business offers stop-in visits, overnight stays and day sitting in customers’ homes.

Steve Kammerer earns beer certification

Steamworks Brewing Co. Co-assistant General Manager Steve “Duder” Kammerer has taken the next step in the national Cicerone Certification Program, achieving “Certified Cicerone.”

Kammerer joins brewers Ken Martin and Spencer Roper and fellow Co-assistant General Manager Dave Woodruff as Certified Cicerones. A cicerone designates those with proven expertise in selecting, acquiring and serving a wide range of beers.

To date, 45 of the brewpub’s servers and beertenders have earned their “Certified Beer Server” credentials, the first step in the Cicerone Certification Program.

A certified cicerone has shown comprehensive knowledge of beer storage, sales and service; beer styles and culture; beer tasting and flavors; brewing ingredients and processes; and pairing beer with food through a written exam, and tasting and demonstration components.
