Ski, snowboard team to hold orientation
An orientation meeting for the Purgatory Ski and Snowboard Team will be held at 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Durango Public Library in Program Rooms 1 and 2.
The team offers alpine ski racing, freestyle skiing and competitive snowboard programs for youngsters ages 6 to 18.
The meeting will detail programs, training schedules, tuition and scholarship information.
Team scholarships and financial aid are available through the Durango Winter Sports Foundation.

Vallecito Nordic seeks help to prep winter trails
Vallecito Nordic invites cross-country skiers to enjoy a day working outdoors and lend a hand to get its trails ready for the upcoming ski season at its Fall Trails Clean-up Day on Oct. 6.
Meet at 10 a.m. at the Old Timerís Campground at the Vallecito Nordic trail system. Bring water, snacks, gloves, good hiking boots and trail tools (shovels, pulaskis, picks, rock bars, loppers).

Lions Club to sponsor ladies-day shoot
The Bayfield Lions Club and Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a ladies-only day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis Range on County Road 223.
Hearing and eye protection will be necessary; sunglasses are acceptable. The rifle/pistol ranges will be closed to all other shooting.
Ladies are invited to bring handguns and ammunition. Participants will learn basic safety and shooting skills or hone them. Targets will be provided, and experienced shooters will be available to answer questions and provide assistance.
There is no charge for this event, but donations are appreciated and will go toward the Bayfield Lions Club Building Fund.
