Bootlegger’s donate to housing alliance

The Bootlegger’s Society presented a check for $10,000 to the Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County from funds raised at this year’s Durango Oktoberfest.

The society consists of the four local breweries, including Carver Brewing Co., Durango Brewing Co., Ska Brewing Co. and Steamworks Brewing Co. The society works to raise funds for different organizations and community needs.

Airborne Media announces new hire

Durango based Airborne Media Group Inc. announces that it has hired Durango resident Doug Parmentier to lead special projects for the startup company.

Parmentier graduated from Chapman University in Orange, Calif., then went on to pursue the field of law enforcement. A graduate of the Los Angeles Police Academy, he served a long career with the Newport Beach, Calif., Police Department. Parmentier retired as police supervisor and moved to Durango in 1995.

Airborne Media Group, a privately held corporation founded in 2010, offers technology allowing users of smartphones to privately listen in to televisions in venues where they must be muted for noise considerations.

Liberty School fundraiser culminates

This week is the last opportunity to donate to The Liberty School’s primary fundraiser, the fourth annual Dyslexic Hall of Fame Gala, which will be held Nov. 10 at the Henry Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Donations will provide scholarships to children with dyslexic or gifted learning needs, and will keep the school running for current and future students. Interested donors may donate items and gift certificates to be sold at the silent auction or “Sponsor a Teacher” to attend the Gala for $65 per seat.

Leavitt Group announces new hire

Leavitt Group Four Corners Insurance Agency announces the hiring of Melanie Watson as a commercial account agent.

Watson, a licensed insurance agent, has more than 22 years of experience in the insurance industry. Watson will specialize in commercial accounts including commercial property, general liability, business auto, flood, and workers compensation insurance. She holds designation as a certified insurance counselor and is an accredited customer service representative. Leavitt Group Four Corners Insurance provides all types of products and services to area residents and businesses, including personal insurance, commercial insurance, contractor bonding and employee benefits.

Camp foundation hires new director

The John Austin Cheley Foundation announces the hiring of Peter Mason as its first executive director.

The foundation, based in Denver, provides funding for low-income youth to attend summer camp at three camps in Colorado, including Colvig Silver Camp in Durango, one in Maine and one in Arizona. The foundation has been run almost exclusively through volunteers.

Mason brings decades of nonprofit experience serving in senior leadership roles with Outward Bound, Water For People, and the Association for Experiential Education.

The foundation also announces new chairwoman of the board Debbie Leibold of Littleton who has served on the foundation board for three years before taking the chairmanship.
