Local installer receives recognition

Insulation installer Ray Blackwater of Durango based San Juan Insulation & Drywall Inc. & Animas Drywall, was named the “Best Insulation Installer in America” at the recent America’s Best Installer competition in Denver.

At the finals, each of the four competitors took turns installing insulation products in a wooden mock home structure. Contestants were evaluated by a panel of judges using several criteria, including quality of workmanship and installation, adherence to safety rules, speed and productivity, and the amount of scrap material created.

Chamber to host business after hours

The Durango Chamber of Commerce will host Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Fitness Solutions, 381 S. Camino del Rio.

The event will feature food and drinks, a roulette game and prizes. The cost is $7 for members and guests.

Mumbling Marmot announces new hire

Zachary Ray has joined Mumbling Marmot Tutoring, specializing in math through pre-calculus including dyslexic challenges with math, test preparation, writing and study skills.

Ray has a degree in sociology from Fort Lewis College and was an academic tutor at FLC from 2005 to 2008 and assistant computer lab coordinator from 2004 to 2009. He speaks English and Spanish.

The tutoring service provides private tutoring services in reading, writing, and math from kindergarten to college, test preparation, learning differences. languages, economics, study skills, gifted/talented enrichment and cognitive training.

Maria’s Bookshop hires new book-seller

Maria’s Bookshop announces the addition of Scott Hunter to its book-selling team.

Hunter grew up on the San Juan River and continues to call the Four Corners home. He is a senior majoring in history at Fort Lewis College.

The bookshop is a locally owned, independent bookstore, at 960 Main Ave. The business is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
