Maria’s Bookshop announces remodel

Maria’s Bookshop has remodeled its children’s area, converting a 70-square-foot storage area into an open place.

Michael Lee and Steve Miegs from Tor’s Hammer used sugar pine to complete the remodel, matching the molding, style and finish work of the expanded area with the rest of the bookshop. The new childrens’ area features a reading nook and low bookshelves.

Maria’s Bookshop is a locally owned, independent bookstore at 960 Main Ave. The bookshop is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

La Plata Electric announces new hire

Dennis McCarthy has joined the La Plata Electric Association Operations Department as an equipment operator, based out of LPEA’s Durango headquarters.

The operations department maintains LPEA’s electrical distribution system, including regular maintenance and repair of equipment in the event of an outage. Its workers are members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. McCarthy will assist LPEA’s journeyman linemen in their work with utility line construction.

Automobile technician receives national award

Fred Pinkney is the 2012 ASE Subaru Master Automobile Technician of the Year.

Pinkney has been a Morehart Murphy employee since 1999, and a Subaru Specialist since 2001. Pinkney and his wife attended the national award ceremony at the Hilton Palacio del Rio in San Antonio, Texas on Nov. 14.

Pinkney was selected from Subaru Master technicians across the United States after having met the requirements set by Subaru and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

Pat Murphy Motors and Morehart Chevrolet Subaru merged on Jan. 1, 2009. The new combined dealership became known as Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center. The dealership sells Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, GMC, Jeep, Ram and Subaru brand vehicles.

Integrated therapy welcomes Jay Alexander

Jay Alexander has returned to Integrated Physical Therapy with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of New Mexico.

Alexander completed his undergraduate work at Fort Lewis College with an emphasis in athletic training. He gained clinical experience as a physical therapy advanced exercise specialist with Integrated PT. He also completed his clinical mentorship with Integrated PT. Adding Alexander to the team will enhance the practice’s ability to serve the community with his expertise in exercise application and orthopedics.
