Children’s author to visit Durango library

Sylvester Allred, author of Rascal the Tassel Eared Squirrel, will visit the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 16.

Allred has been a researcher of tassel-eared squirrel ecology for the last 21 years as a biology professor at Northern Arizona University, in Flagstaff, Ariz., and has observed many of the events in his children’s book while studying squirrels. His book shares the adventures of a fictional squirrel facing real dangers and challenges as she grows up in the wild. Several copies of the book will be awarded as door prizes, and naturalists from Durango Nature Studies will provide nature activities for kids to do after the program.

This event is best for ages 5 and older, and registration is not required.
