A whole lot of grooming going on at Vallecito

Warm weather, sure, but the snow is great.

Vallecito Nordic has been groomed, “with most of the dog post holes groomed out for the moment,” according to an email to The Durango Herald. “With snow predicted for the end of the week, we will stay on top of the grooming.”

Sunday’s Locals Day at DMR to benefit AHS

Animas High School will be the benefactor of Sunday’s Locals Benefits Day at Durango Mountain Resort.

Discounted lift tickets can be purchased with a coupon, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit AHS, a local nonprofit organization. Tickets will cost $40 for adults, $32 for senior citizens and young adults and $25 for children. The coupons can be found in the Durango Telegraph or online at or

Round 2 rivalry tickets go on sale Monday

Tickets for Round 2 of the Durango High School and Montezuma-Cortez High School boys and girls basketball rivalry will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the DHS Activities Office.

There are 200 tickets available for DHS fans, parents and students. All tickets are $5, and no tickets will be sold at the door the night of the games.

DHS, which swept MCHS in Round 1 of the archrivalry in Durango, will play Round 2 at 5:30 (girls) and 7 p.m. (boys) Tuesday in Cortez.

MBS is raffling off new LiveStrong/IHBC Tour

Mountain Bike Specialists purchased a LiveStrong/Iron Horse Bicycle Classic Tour to Silverton, and they want to give it away.

Register for the tour at MBS from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The first-place prize will be the LiveStrong/IHBC Tour; second-place will be the Quarter Horse entry; third-place will be a USA Pro Cycling Challenge banner.

Three people will win guaranteed tour registration, one-on-one support from LiveStrong staff, an original LiveStrong cycling jersey, team happy hour, team dinner and LiveStrong tent amenities at Durango Mountain Resort after the Quarter Horse and in Silverton after the Iron Horse.

The MBS drawing will be Feb. 22.

Navajo Prep will hold a volleyball tournament

Tired of the winter cold?

“Bring the Heat” to Farmington.

The “Bring the Heat” volleyball tournament will take place Feb. 23 at Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington.

The format is three males, three females, pool play, then double elimination. The entry fee is $100. There will be awards for first through third place in the 12-team tournament.
