Dan Selzer, caretaker of the Old Fort Lewis campus at Hesperus, discs in a rye cover crop in 2012. The three acres are used by start-up farmers with the Old Fort Market Garden Incubator Program.

An entry-level program at the old Fort Lewis College campus in Hesperus for aspiring farmers is taking applications for the 2015 growing season.

It’s the Old Fort Market Garden Incubator Program that will train farmers from January into April in the basics of growing and marketing. Land, water and equipment are provided.

The dirt-under-the-fingernails phase begins in April.

Applications are due Dec. 12. For information, contact Beth LaShell at 385-4574 or lashell_b@fortlewis.edu
