Ignacio murder remains unsolved 6 years later

Who shot and killed Larry John Fuller?

The year 2009 was not two hours old when a man walking along Goddard Avenue, the main thoroughfare in Ignacio, was shot and killed.

Six years later, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation apparently still is stumped. A request for a status report Wednesday went unanswered.

Investigators were tight-lipped about the case immediately after the shooting.

The CBI declined to reveal details.

What is known is that Larry John Fuller, 49, had been out with Paula Silva, his common-law wife, at the Sidekick Lounge to ring in the new year. They danced and had a few drinks.

As closing time approached and the couple prepared to leave, Fuller for some reason left ahead of her. Twenty minutes later, he was found dead, shot, in front of a Baptist Church in the 300 block of Goddard Avenue.

It was 1:50 a.m.

Fuller met Silva in 2001 in Pagosa Springs. They moved to Denver in 2003 so he could get his diesel mechanic’s license.

Fuller additionally was a plumber, an electrician and a carpenter.

He had four children, three stepchildren and 14 grandchildren. Silva said he stayed out of trouble and tried to be a good mentor to the younger generations.

Authorities at the time asked for public help in solving the crime. If they’ve received tips, the information apparently is too scanty to lead investigators to a suspect or motive.
