A changing of the guard occurred at Durango School District 9-R headquarters.
Eleven pieces of student-produced art that have watched over events from a wall in the auditorium for the last year were swapped Tuesday for new pieces.
It’s happened every spring since 1997. Each of the district’s 11 schools holds an art contest for its students, then places the winning entry in the lot that goes to the district office.
This year, there was no contribution from Riverview Elementary School. The school is planning a more detailed program later in the spring, said district spokeswoman Julie Popp.
Recognized by school board members Tuesday night for their work were (student, school and grade): Calan Barnhardt and Griffin Hall, Animas Valley, fifth; Kenna Patcheck, Florida Mesa, fifth; Madelyn Napier, Fort Lewis Mesa, fifth; Rey Sandoval, Needham, fifth; Delia Bong, Park, first; Ethan Yeargin, Sunnyside, fifth; Lila Trono, Escalante, sixth; Rebecca Bowers, Miller, seventh; Jane Zuccolillo, Durango High, 12th; Ana Lerma Martin del Campo, Big Picture, 11th.
