DEVO executive director steps down

Haggart

Durango DEVO, a local youth cycling group, is going to be looking for new leadership soon, now that the executive director has stepped down.

Executive Director Amy Haggart will be transitioning out of her job at the end June, but she will remain involved, said Denise Robbins, president of DEVO’s board of directors.

“I’ve always been here for DEVO, and I will continue to always be there for them,” Haggart said.

DEVO started in 2006, and has swelled to serve about 600 kids, many of whom sign up for multiple programs representing about 900 registrations during the year.

The organization has grown steadily, and Haggart expects that to continue.

Haggart took over from the founders about a year-and-half ago, after being a longtime board member.

“I was that gap person to pave the way for the next leader of DEVO,” she said.

She would like to see a passionate cyclist and a creative leader take her place.

While the board searches for a replacement, the group will collectively cover the executive director duties, Robbins said.

There is no timeline for hiring a new executive director, and she timed her resignation to coincide with a slower season for the group to give it plenty of time to select the right person, Haggart said.

“We’re all willing to work together to make it a good transition,” she said.

Haggart plans to spend more time with her kids and focusing on a software company she runs with her husband.
