A woman was safe Thursday night after being pulled out of the Animas River.
According to Durango Police Department Officer Kathleen O’Toole, two people saw the woman, who was not identified, walk into the river intentionally near the Durango Fish Hatchery and Wildlife Museum south of the Durango Public Library. One of them called 911 as she was swept a short distance down the river.
A runner passing by on the Animas River Trail saw the woman and asked if she wanted help. O’Toole said the woman in the Animas reached out her hand, and the runner pulled her to safety.
Paramedics from the Durango Fire Protection District transported her to Mercy Regional Medical Center.
