Farmington man dies in motorcycle crash

The investigation is underway into a car accident that killed a Farmington man Sunday on U.S. Highway 550 north of Durango.

Michael Jakino, 64, was killed after the driver of a pickup crossed the center line and side-swiped his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis.

Robin Jakino, 57, was also on the motorcycle and was airlifted to Denver with critical injuries. Her condition was not available Monday. Both motorcycle riders were wearing helmets.

Durangoan, Kristen Moon, 24, was driving the Toyota Tacoma who hit the Harley Davidson. She was uninjured.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the accident, Lewis said. Excessive speed is also not a factor in this case, he said.

It still an open case and charges have not been filed, he said.
