Bayfield saw strong performances from sophomore Courtney Bayles, junior Miranda Talbot and junior Maddi Foutz as the Wolverines beat Monte Vista in four sets 25-8, 27-29, 25-11 and 25-23.
Bayfield is now 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the 3A Intermountain Division. Monte Vista is now 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the division.
According to Bayfield head coach Terene Foutz, Bayfield was too conservative offensively which allowed for Monte Vista to scrap its way back in the game. The Wildcats’ offensive power, however, kicked in late in the match.
Bayfield will test itself on the road again at 6 p.m. Thursday at Alamosa.
