Red Mountain Pass reopens during day

Work continues on crib wall
The area where the massive rockslide occurred at Ruby Walls on Red Mountain Pass in 2014 underwent more work this month, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Red Mountain Pass has reopened after being closed during the day since early September.

The pass was closed to allow work on three separate projects along U.S. Highway 550.

The closure allowed the San Miguel Power Association to repair downed power transmission lines that fell victim to the major rockfall in 2014, which closed the pass for almost a month.

Single-lane alternative travel remains in place until mid-November to allow the Colorado Department of Transportation to repair a crib wall.

No oversize or overweight vehicles will be permitted on Highway 550 on Red Mountain Pass while the work continues.
