Give Hardrock credit where it is due

I like the message in the editorial (Herald, 7/20) about sportsmanship and the Hardrock 100 co-winner Kilian Jornet, but why not include the sportsmanship of co-winner Durangoan Jason Schlarb as well? Both are incredible runners and either could have made a move to go for the win. It sounded like it was a mutual decision to finish together, not just Jornet’s.

Furthermore, as I volunteered at the aid station at mile 85, I witnessed Schlarb stand up first after eating to let Jornet know that he was going to leave because he was getting cold and would just walk until Jornet caught up. It looked like they were really enjoying running together through the mountains and sharing the experience along with pacer Paul Hamilton. Let’s be good sports and give a little credit to all involved.
