Airport: Respect lost for local families

I believe this “moldy oldy” has lived in La Plata County long enough (90-plus years) to be able to express her opinion of the airport squabble.

As I see it, the respect for the beginning of the beautiful farm north of the runway is nil. That farm began in the homesteading days of La Plata County. The history involved two families: A. Kern, homesteader, and the McCaws as buyers and owners.

That continues today, with decades of productive agriculture and hard work.

All the years of caring for the land by the five generations raised there are also disrespected. Agriculture is at the bottom of the list when “Mr. Greed” enters the situation and taking can be had, but it is the first to bear the brunt of taxation.

Seems that if the industrial clutter on the northwest corner of the airport was not allowed at all, there would be room to expand. Have you driven around there to go south? It’s not good with all that clutter to go through.

A last thought: It seems the powers that be don’t understand or care. But caring would be too much when taxes are needed for funding.
