Crew released from Animas Mountain brush fire

A Durango Fire Protection District crew was called out Monday night to a fire on Animas Mountain, but it quickly discovered the blaze to be extinguished.

By 9:40 p.m., the crew was released, and the command was terminated, DFPD spokesman Scot Davis said.

Earlier, he noted: “The fire is pretty high up, and is visible from several locations. The PD (Durango Police Department) was called in to escort them (the engine crew) in case it was started by a campfire, perhaps by people without homes.”
