New appointees not only users of roads

My son and his wife have lived in Durango Hills for three years. A few months ago, I noticed and commented that the roads were greatly improved. My son told me it was because there had been changes on the Durango Hills road committee.

So, I want to comment on Bob Pfeiffer’s complaint (Letters, Herald, Sept. 25) about road improvements in Durango Hills being redirected “to the areas where the newly installed board members live ... where there is far less traffic and less overall benefit to the taxpayers of the district.”

In an effort to smear commissioners Julie Westendorff and Gwen Lachelt, he accuses them of being unethical by appointing certain Durango Hills residents to the board.

I understand Durango Hills residents go through an application process to be on the board. Did Pfeiffer check to see if the new board appointments were approved by all three county commissioners?

From what Pfeiffer wrote in his letter, I understood him to say he was not maintaining the entire road for the benefits of all the taxpayers in Durango Hills, but was instead directing improvements and maintenance to the area where he lives. He also ignores that there is federal land accessed through Durango Hills and those “newly installed board members” are not the only people using the roads.
