Marijuana dispensary burglarized

A medical marijuana dispensary in Durango was burglarized last week, but nothing appears to have been stolen. The burglary, at the Durango Healing Center, occurred about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 31 at 473 E. College Drive. Updated - 12:07AM

Cortez resident pleads guilty to lying to bank

DENVER - A Cortez man pleaded guilty Friday to a felony charge of lying to Bank of Durango when applying for a loan. Richard C. Shaw got a $1.1 million Small Business Administration loan in 2003 for his business, Sonrise Construction of the Four Corners, LLC. Updated - 12:32AM

9-R earns state health award

The Colorado Department of Education has recognized Durango School District 9-R for its effort to improve health education, nutrition and physical activity. Awards to Durango 9-R and 10 other school districts, made in Denver on Thursday, coincided with the release of the Colorado Legacy Foundation's new online 2009 Health and Wellness Best Practices Guide. The foundation hosted the Commissioner's Choice Awards gathering. Updated - 12:06AM

A group called Sensible Durango wants voters to decide in November 2010 whether to decriminalize marijuana - at least when it comes to the City Code. Sensible Durango is gathering signatures from city voters in an effort to force a ballot question that asks: Should the city of Durango adopt "An Ordinance to Establish a Sensible Marijuana Policy in Durango" that would remove criminal penalties from the City Code for the private possession and use of marijuana by those 21 or older?
