Gentle yoga class to be available at church

A gentle yoga class with Jennifer Kiel, certified yoga instructor, takes place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.

The class is ideally suited for senior citizens and people new to yoga. Drop-ins and beginners are welcome. Class will be canceled today, but there will be class Dec. 31.

Nutrition, exercise program for women to be offered

The Colorado State University Extension office of La Plata County will present the class “Strong Women, Healthy Hearts” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursday beginning Jan. 10 in the Extension Building of the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

Orientation will take place at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 8. This is a 12-week nutrition and exercise program for women. Participants will learn about heart-healthy eating patterns, disease prevention, weight-control techniques, and what to look for and what to avoid.

An optional diet analysis will be available. The series will be led by Wendy Rice, registered dietitian, who has done work and programming involving cardiac health as well as diabetes education.
