A 79-minute game would have suited head coach Jen Zelinski and the Bayfield High School girls soccer team just fine.
The Wolverines gave up a goal in the last minute of an otherwise stellar 3-1 win over Ridgway on Friday in Ridgway.
“We just got kind of lazy,” Zelinski said. “We were dominating the game, then didn’t get back.”
Andrea Zelinski opened the scoring in the first minute on an assist from Meaghan Mooney to stake the Wolverines to a 1-0 halftime lead.
Maddie Duran struck in the first minute of the second, also assisted by Mooney. She also added an assist in the 65th minute when Andrea Zelinski found the back of the net for the second time.
“We looked like the team we looked like before spring break – passing the ball a lot,” coach Zelinski said.
BHS (7-3, 7-1 Class 3A Region 5) won its second consecutive game after a three-game losing streak.
The Wolverines remain on the road for an 11 a.m. game Saturday at Telluride, which BHS beat 1-0 in their first meeting this season.
