Second-half goals carry Durango boys soccer past Grand Junction Central

DHS boys soccer improves to 6-3

After a 3-0 loss to open the league schedule, Durango has out-scored its opponents 8-0 through two games.

The Durango High School boys soccer team (6-3, 2-1 Southwestern League) picked up a 5-0 win Friday at Grand Junction Central (3-6, 4-0 SWL) behind four second-half goals.

The win came six days after the Demons downed Fruita Monument 3-0 and a week after a 3-0 loss at Montrose to open the Class 4A/5A Southwestern League Season.

Vance Bulen, Camden Garland, Connor Henry, Blake McClain and Luke Stetler scored the goals for DHS.

“We played well but were sluggish in the first half,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said in a voice message to The Durango Herald. “Coming out sluggish is becoming a trend for us, but we found our feet. It’s hard to go over the mountain and go play.”

DHS (6-3, 2-1 SWL) will look to make it three in a row at 11 a.m. Saturday against Grand Junction (4-3, 2-0 SWL).
