Twenty-two Bayfield Wolverines and four Ignacio Bobcats have reached the ultimate stage of high school track and field.
Bayfield will bring a loaded team to the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 3A state track and field meet at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood this Thursday through Saturday. Meanwhile, Class 2A Ignacio has a small but strong squad ready to make a leap toward podiums.
Both squads are loaded with pole vaulters. Bayfield is also strong in the throwing events and relays, while Ignacio has a talented pair of sprinters.
Here is a closer look at those who will represent the two teams:

Expectations: “I hope to go in and leave it all out there. I hope to keep accelerating, even if it’s only a couple inches.”

Expectations: “I’m looking forward to the experience to see what I can do when I’m older. I want to learn from my experience from the competition.”

Events: Long jump, 4x100 relay
Expectations: “For long jump, I’m expecting to get a personal record (which would beat her previous school record). For the 4x100 team, I think we can get really far with it.”

Events: Pole vault, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 relays
Expectations: “This year, it’s an expectation to make the podium. We want to win.”
Grade: Freshman

Expectations: “I’m expecting there to be a lot of people, but I want to be there for my team and help them win.”

Expectations: “I hope to definitely get up on the podium.”
