With winter over, dandelions provide abundant pollen and nectar
A pollen-covered bee crawls on a dandelion Tuesday in Hermosa. Dandelions are one of the first foods that supply bees their pollen and nectar after a long winter, said Katrina Blair, founder/director of Turtle Lake Refuge. Turtle Lake Refuge will be hosting the Dandelion Festival on May 4 in Rotary Park. The event is to help educate the community on how important weeds are to pollinators and to eliminate spraying of herbicides on private and public lands. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
