Aztec woman treated Monday for moderate injuries
First responders with Durango Fire Protection District tend people involved in a two-vehicle crash Monday at County Road 225A and U.S. Highway 160, east of Elmore’s Corner. Louva Carra, 78, of Aztec was sent to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment. She later was released.

Two Aztec drivers were involved in a crash Monday on U.S. Highway 160 east of Elmore’s Corner.

The collision occurred about 10:30 a.m. at U.S. Highway 160 and County Road 225A, said Capt. Adrian Driscoll, with the Colorado State Patrol in Durango.

Louva Carra, 78, appears to have been trying to cross the highway via County Road 225A when she failed to yield to cross-traffic, Driscoll said.

She was driving a 2002 Dodge pickup that was struck by a 2006 BMW being driven west by Cathryn Buckley, 53.

Buckley suffered minor injuries.

Carra was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center and released, a hospital spokesman said. She was cited with careless driving causing bodily injury.

Carra said she was making a left turn onto the highway, but all the evidence suggests she was going straight across the highway, Driscoll said.

Highway 160 remained opened throughout the crash investigation, he said.
