100 years ago: “Louis Olbert of Thompson’s Park, who was in town to pay his taxes, says there is more snow in the park then they have had for years – 5 feet at the lowest estimate, while Lizard Head has not had half that much.”

75 years ago: “Game Warden Vic = of Bayfield said that the Animas River from the Bondad bridge on down would be closed this spring as far as sucker fishing is concerned. The reason for closing the stream is that it will be stocked, the game warden said.”

50 years ago: HESPERUS –“Mike Elliott of Fort Lewis College continued his winning ways as he won the senior division class A cross-country race in the opening day of competition at the 1965 Junior and Senior Nordic Combined Ski meet.”

25 years ago: “Although La Plata Community Hospital suffered a $35,000 loss for January, the board of directors unanimously approved more than $56,000 to replace equipment. The medical equipment, which will be installed within the next 30 days, includes a treadmill, monitor to measure oxygen in blood, a heart monitoring device and respirator.”
